The Media Center is open during each school day. Students are expected to work, study, or read quietly at times. Students are encouraged to use the Media Center before school and after school. Students can come to the media center during lunch with a note from teacher. Students may visit the Media Center between 7:30 and 3:30. AUDIO VISUAL MATERIALS: Audio-visual materials may not be checked out by students only by teachers. These materials may be used in the Media Center or classrooms. BOOKS: Check out period: General Collections-2 weeks and can be renewed Reference-Media Center or classroom use only Reserved Books-Varies as arranged by teacher CATALOG: All Media Centers in the Banks County School System use Destiny as the automated catalog/circulation system. The link for Destiny at BCHS is Destiny A look-up station is available in the media center for students to use. Teachers may use this link on their laptop to search for materials. COPYRIGHT: All copyright laws will be enforced at all times. If you have questions about copyright, see the Media Specialist. DISPLAYS: The display cases are available for use by individuals or groups. FOOD and DRINKS: Food and drinks are not allowed in the Media Center. CELLPHONES: Students are not allowed to use cell phones in the Media Center unless directed by teacher. FINES: Students are asked to return materials in a timely manner, but fines are not charged for overdue books. Students with overdue books may be required to return them before checking out other books. Lost or damaged books must be paid for before students will be issued grades at the end of the semester. HOURS: The Media Center is open from 7:30 to 3:30 each day. The Media Center may be open before 7:30AM or after 3:30PM as needed. If you want to work on a project after school, it is suggested that attend the after school program in Room 902. RESERVED BOOKS: At times, teachers may request books to be reserved for their classes. These books will be shelved separately and available for those classes. SHELVING MATERIALS: No books should be re-shelved. Please return books to the circulation desk or leave on the tables. MEDIA CENTER ORIENTATION: All students will be invited to attend a media center orientation at the beginning of the school year. This presentation will be conducted through the ELA department. LAMINATION: All lamination will be completed on Thursdays. Please have materials to the media center no later than 8AM on Thursday morning. Make sure your name is on your materials. Lamination will be returned to the teacher workroom by Friday morning. COMPUTER LABS: All labs will be reserved by the Media Specialist and Media Paraprofessional. Please check website for availability then email [email protected] or [email protected] to reserve. Labs may only be reserved in one week increments (or five days per month) and then no more than two months in advance. This scheduling is to allow everyone an opportunity to use the lab when needed. If the labs are not scheduled then a teacher may reserve the lab for additional days. VIDEOS and DVD Policy: All videos and DVDs viewed in the classroom must be school-owned videos. If individual departments house a majority of their video collection purchased with department funds, an inventory of these videos needs to provided to the media specialist. All videos/DVD viewings should support one or more Georgia Performance Standards (GPS), and thus should have an instructional purpose based on the GPS curriculum. If a teacher chooses to view an appropriate and instructional-purposed video or DVD not owned by the school, the teacher must fill out the Video/DVD approval form see below, and submit the form to the media specialist for approval by a school administrator. GPS correlation is also required on this form, as well as other information pertinent to the instructional purpose of showing the video
